Solotrombone Wins 2020 Player of the Year Title

ALL OF YOUR HOMES, USA - For the second time in MPT history, a player came from behind in the last event of the season to win the Player of the Year race. After earning his second win of the season in late November Solotrombone trailed Syrorange3042 by seven points going into the Main Event, but a strong third place finish in the final event of the year catapulted Solotrombone to the top of the standings, holding off a surging RowanB, who finished the year with back to back second place finishes to fall just short of the top spot.

Both Solotrombone and RowanB eclipsed Bigfus' record for points in a single season, set in 2010, though RowanB played in two more tournaments than Bigfus did that year and Solotrombone benefited from larger fields throughout the 2020 season. Nonetheless, with two victories and two other cashes in seven events played en route to the third highest cash total in MPT history Solotrombone's season stands among the most successful in MPT history.

Here are the complete "Sealy Cup" point standings for the 2020 season.

1. Solotrombone (97.5)

11. Skyweb22 (44)
12. Bigfus (24)
13. Amazon (17)
14. Martin (12)
15. TSS777 (5)
16. Scurvydog (3)
17. Pehffff (2)

Solotrombone Tops 2020 MPT Money List

Following one of the few years when Solotrombone failed to cash in an MPT event, he rebounded to top the season-ending money list for the first time in his career. With a second place in the first event of the season and a third place cash in the Main Event bracketing two wins, in June and late November Solotrombone finished well ahead of RowanB, who finished second on the money list for the fifth time in his MPT career, two more runner-up finishes than Harv29, the only other player to finish second on the money list more than once in MPT history. The $92.50 winning margin was the fourth largest in MPT history, topped only by Bigfus over Harv29 in 2011, Sass over RowanB in 2009, and New Norman/Noahcat over RowanB in 2016.

Here is the complete list of money leaders for the 2020 season.
